Environmental Cleaning
Our specialist hazmat team don't just undertake asbestos removal, we recognise that there are many other environmental issues that require specialist clearance and handling including mold and bird fowling. At Ferncroft we are fully insured and trained in microbial cleaning including final sanitisation, treatments and waste disposal.
Our stringent controls including containment areas, negative pressure and specialist Type H vacuum's and PPE are utilised in our safe systems of work and operations.
From mold, microbial growths such as aspergillus, through to lead, pigeon and bird guano clean up is all part of our service.
We treat all the different contaminants with the same controlled and contained manner to ensure the prevention of risks to others.
This includes purpose built containment areas, with airlock access points and full negative pressure.

Testing
Like asbestos, we recognise that there are other environmental issues that need to deal with and in the same safe and secure manner that we adopt for the removal of asbestos, we ensure that the correct safe system's of work are put in place.
From sampling, testing through to reporting back, Ferncroft have been instrumental in leading the way in environmental cleaning and testing, from microbial, bacterium and soil testing through to environmental clean up and disposal.
Our testing services involve the collection of soil, microbial wipes and waste samples and sending them to one of our network of accredited testing labs, from Public Health England to University specialist microbial testing and soil sample testing in accordance with the 'Waste Acceptance Criteria' (WAC) for clear determination for recycling or specified waste routes.

What Testing do we Undertake
In a nutshell, if a material or substance needs checking, we get it tested. The reasons we do this are varied, from site clean up and remediation through to the correct disposal route. Its not just about turning up to carryout the cleaning and clearance of the hazardous materials, its about planning, risk control and ensuring that we cover all the required personal protective equipment for our employees including the correct respiratory protective equipment and decontamination arrangements.
The correct waste streams also need careful planning and implementation. If it is landfill for asbestos then the facility only opens once a month, so safe lockable storage arrangements have to be considered. with microbial waste including pigeon and guano waste then it has to go for incineration, which again needs planning and allocating a time for the incinerator plant to receive the waste, you cannot just turn up at these facilities, waste is controlled and legislated.
The following are just some of the things we have tested for recently, and where positive has been dealt with using our in house hazmat team.
Asbestos | Lead | Full Soil Chemical and WAC Testing | Sulphur | Hydrocarbons | Anthrax | Mold | Aspergillus | Penicillium | Campylorbactor | Salmonella | Cladosporium | Leptospira Stachybotrys, to name but a few
What other services to be undertake
Where there is a risk of hazardous contamination, the following are just some of the additional services that we have undertaken and offer as part of our bespoke services.
Micro Demolition
In many cases our works involve us having to partner large specialist demolition companies , by firstly removing the asbestos so that they can undertake their works. Sometimes to get to the asbestos we have to undertake some of the works because of potential contamination risks, such as removing suspended ceilings because their are asbestos containing spray coatings above that may have degraded over the years.
We recognise, that all demolition works are different and in many cases demolition of smaller projects where asbestos is present, are easier and best dealt with by us. From domestic garages to small sub stations we are available to discuss, help plan and undertake the works for you.

Internal Strip Outs
When a building is being renovated for what ever reasons including in preparation for new occupants, the process of stripping back the existing fit out to the bare walls is a specialist job, which in many cases involves the removal of asbestos.
Knowing the added risk, Ferncroft Environmental working with clients and facility management companies offer this one stop facility, allowing them to have access to one contractor that can undertake the complete internal strip out.
From internal walls, suspended ceilings, services, floor coverings and general clear out from previous occupants is all in a days work for us and if there is asbestos issues, we deal with them also.
If the building has been vacant for some time, it may require an environmental clean and sanitisation, at Ferncroft, our hazmat team trained to deal with microbial contaminants are all part of the service.

Recycling
With demolition, asbestos removal, internal strip outs, environmental clean ups and general remediation, by default theirs a lot of unwanted waste. Some we have no choice with, the very nature such as asbestos is classed as controlled waste and has to double bagged / wrapped and disposed of at a licensed facility, where it is registered, recorded and buried.
Other wastes such as microbial contaminants also have to be dealt with, which often involves consultation with the islands environmental health team on whether the waste goes for thermal destruction of specialist treatment before land fill.
For us it what we do best and all in a days work, the nice part is that their is always plenty of waste that can be recycled and where possible is our preferred option.
Our ethos is quite simple if it can be recycled, it must be recycled.
Concrete, bricks, blocks are sent to one of the islands recognised recycling yards for crushing and grading where it is used in future works. Timber is segregated and where it has no further use is sent to the 'Energy from waste plant and metals recovered for smelting.
